The windows here at the cottage are mostly wooden, single glazed casements fitted back in the 1970s. After over 40 years’ exposure to the winds and rain which bowls down the valley they’re suffering. We can see daylight through the frames of a couple and in the wet they swell and warp. Same goes for the doors. So, we made the decision to change them all. We’re keeping to the same simple timber casement design but will go for double glazing.
But what colour? At the moment they’re painted a light blue, which when the sun shines gives the impression we could be in Provence, but we’re looking for something a bit more muted for our corner of Wales. We painted a selection of Farrow and Ball colours on tear sheets last week and pinned them on the outside door. Currently, we’re thinking ‘Pigeon’.
